MyHummy, My Saviour! - Review & Giveaway

Blogging has taken a bit of a backseat this week, we've had visitors but mostly because Oscar hasn't been well, he came down with Bronchiolitis and needed lots of TLC.  Cuddles have really been the only thing to settle him this week, which at times are really hard to give.  I have Emelia to look after too and the tea won't cook itself!  That's when I remembered I had the MyHummy white noise bear, 'Ash' and let me tell you, this bear has rescued me numerous times this week, and saved my sanity at 3am!

Oscar is a loving (and dare I say slightly needy) little boy and falls asleep the second I hold him, alas! I have found my replacement, I simply need to play his MyHummy bear and you can see him instantly relax and drift off into a blissful sleep.

MyHummy is the first white noise toy I have tried and tested, we didn't have anything like it for Emelia and I wasn't really aware of the benefits white noise has for babies.  To be honest, I've been amazed and I can't quite believe how quickly it works.  I don't believe many newborn babies are particularly good sleepers, certainly without help.  Studies have shown that babies who are given white noise to listen to are 3 times more likely to fall asleep. 3 times!  This really surprised me, but then I thought about it more and the penny dropped.  Babies are used to noise, in the womb they have the constant background noise of your heartbeat alongside noises from the outside world.  Having a new baby is exhausting, and if white noise is going to help me get a little more sleep then hand me all the white noise in the world!

So what makes MyHummy so special?

Appearance

For one, I think it's a cute toy, it's made of lovely soft, plush fabric and comes beautifully packaged.  I have to admit it's a lot bigger than I was anticipating, this is by no means a bad thing!  Ash goes wherever we go, he even had his first trip to the marina for breakfast yesterday! He sits nicely in our pram without being too close to Oscar or taking up too much space.

Set Up & Sleep Sensor
It's easy to set up and easy to use, the speaker comes separately in the box, you'll need to add 3 AAA batteries (which are not included), insert it into your chosen toy and voila! You're ready to go.  To turn it on, hold the button for 1 second and 2 seconds to turn it off.  It has 5 sound options; ocean waves, rainfall, heartbeat (Oscar's favourite) and 2 frequencies of a vacuum cleaner, which you can select by pushing the button twice quickly. To adjust the volume simply hold the button down until you reach your required volume.

The MyHummy toys have a timer which you can easily set to make the noise fade out after 60 minutes, but staying on standby for 12 hours after (you can opt out of this) so if and when your baby stirs the sleep sensor will set him off again, at the same volume you have previously selected.  If your baby needs continuous noise to sleep, there is also an option for him to play for 12 hours.

Having looked into white noise toys a little more this week, I've realised there are plenty on the market, including mobile phone apps, for us MyHummy is absolutely the winner and I wouldn't use anything else, not only is it practical, when he no longer needs the white noise he can use it as a lovely soft toy.  There are 3 different toy options with a variety of colours to choose from, at different price points; the Teddy Bears retail at £59, the Snoozy at £49 and the Sleepy Head (I have my eye on this for Oscars cot!) at £39.

  4. Oh this is so cute! I love how this is a teddy which means it's small enough to take places with you and not worry about how bulky it is. Hope Oscar recovers from his bronchiolitis quickly too.

  8. These are so cute! We looked into these before Lucas was born as a few mums had recommended them but they're a luxury we can't really afford right now! I love the Filbert one though. It would go with the colour scheme of his new room when we move house and he finally has a space of his own!

  10. I would love to win a snoozy. Our little one will only sleep in our bed with the exception of a couple of rare hours we can get him down in his cot, having just found out we are expecting our second (huge shock as was on the pill & breastfeeding)this would come in really handy to get him into a more structured routine before our new baby arrives x
